Belgian Film Series screening, Hitler In Hollywood

Hitler in Hollywood: Actress Maria de Medeiros, best known from her role in "Pulp Fiction", is working on a documentary about movie star Micheline Presle whose career began in the 1930s. She discusses her subject with various directors until they hit upon the name Luis Aramcheck. Presle made a film with him in 1939 that never made it into theaters because of the war. Medeiros sets out on the trail of the lost movie, and her bio-doc becomes a thrilling investigation into European cinema's forgotten past.

SFFLA Dives into Second Week-end of "Immersion" into Nordic Films

The 12th Annual Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. continues this weekend--Jan 15, 16 with twelve more "hot films from the cold North." Drama, action, adventure, animation, a "jaw-dropping" documentary, and, even laughter! "Yes, there are Nordic comedies!" says Festival Founder/Director James Koenig. The 12th Scandinavian Film Festival-Scandinavian Oscar Submissions

The 12th Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. (SFFLA) returns to the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills with a strong selection of Scandinavian Oscar Submissions and a baker's dozen of handpicked films highlighting Nordic Cinema at its best. Founder- Director James Koenig (classical singer, poet, author) was decorated as a Knight of the Order of the Finnish Lion for his work with the American Scandinavian Foundation of Los Angeles.

A conversation with James Koenig about the 2011 SFFLA

This week we had the opportunity to interview James Koenig, director of Scandinavian Film Festival, LA, about the 2011 festival. James Koenig is used to both sub and super-titles in his dealings with foreign language film and in his non-film endeavors as a classical singer. In fact, his voice has been heard in various arts arenas -not only as a singer, but also as an arts advocate, writer, director, commentator, and teacher. He has served on juries evaluating both singers, and films. He is the founder/director of the 12 year old SFFLA.

Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. 2011

The 12th Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. unreels at the Writers Guild Theater (135 S. Doheny/at Wilshire) in Beverly Hills on January 8, 9, 15 and 16, with a program of both blockbusters and discoveries. The festival offers an annual immersion into the world of Nordic film during the winter "film season" that makes its way through festivals and awards in the build up to Academy Awards nominations and the Awards themselves. The festival focuses on the work of filmmakers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden including Nordic Oscar contenders, additional current feature films, and a sampling of shorts and documentaries.
