EDUCATIONAL INTIATIVES
ELMA proudly supports programs that introduce children, teens, and college students to European cinema and filmmakers. We believe that early exposure to European film fosters a deeper appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism among the next generation of young Americans.

This is a small French program in a low income charter, & attending the screening was extremely valuable for my students. They don’t have much contact with French culture in their neighborhoods.”
Teacher at Hemet High School, Hemet
“I have been attending this program for the past 6 or 7 years and it always exceeds my expectations!”
Teacher at Flintridge Preparatory School, La Cañada
“This event has left a profound impact on at least half a dozen who have pursued careers in the entertainment industry. It helped them connect the dots between my French class and the real world.”

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Introducing French Language Students to French Cinema
ELMA partners with The American French Film Festival (TAFFF) to bring students across Southern California into direct contact with international cinema through immersive, educational experiences.
High School Screenings
Each year, more than 3,000 students and teachers participate in screenings that introduce global films to young audiences. Since launching, the program has reached nearly 39,000 participants across 130+ schools.
These screenings create early opportunities to explore new perspectives, spark discussion, and engage with diverse cultures.
Master Class Program
Visiting French filmmakers lead conversations at colleges and film schools, offering students a rare look into the creative process and the realities of global filmmaking.
Together, these programs nurture the next generation of curious, open-minded filmgoers.
Admission to high school screenings is free and open to all high school teachers and their students in Southern California.
Highlights From Other Student-Focused Programs
Beyond our ongoing program with TAFFF, ELMA collaborates with other leading festivals to produce special, youth-focused events. Each partnership creates a unique opportunity for students to experience international films in new and engaging ways.
